Description
Swedish body massage is a whole body treatment using a variety of massage
techniques to aid the body and mind to relax.
This in turn, aids the body in maintaining or returning to homeostasis and
allows the recipient to experience some relief from the debilitating effects of
pain, discomfort and stress.
This course focuses on encouraging the delegate to develop the necessary
practical and interpersonal skills to be able to deliver this highly effective and
popular treatment.
Tuition is also given in the underpinning essential knowledge of relevant
anatomy and physiology of the whole body.
Course content:
- History & benefits of Swedish Massage.
- Preparation of workspace & client.
- Health, safety & hygiene in the workplace.
- Client consultation
- Contraindications & contra-actions.
- Personal posture & safe working positions.
- Swedish massage techniques.
- Practical tuition on delivering massage.
- Client aftercare & record keeping.
Course delivery & structure:
- This course is delivered over 2 days.
- Please arrive at 9.45 to ensure a prompt start.
- Each day starts from 10am & finishes at 4pm with a short
break for lunch.
- The course is a mixture of classroom practical work with a
heavy emphasis on the practical.
- You will be expected to give & receive treatments as part of
this course.
- Our courses can be mixed gender. If you require to be in a same
gender group please discuss this with us prior to booking.
Accreditation
In order to be able to gain insured status as a therapist working on members of the public you will need to complete one of our ABT ACCREDITED COURSES. These include all the required elements to work effectively as a therapist. Throughout the course you will develop your knowledge and understanding of the relevant anatomy and physiology and a range of technical skills enabling you to provide the best quality treatments along with knowledge of Health & Safety Regulations. You will also learn interpersonal skills that will assist you in communicating effectively with your clients.
Your class contact time is where the technical skills and guidance is given to enable you to complete the sections of home study and develop your new skill through client case studies. Upon completion you have the option to return to the academy to showcase your skills and constructive feedback will be offered. The amounts of class contact and numbers of case studies vary between different skills and are detailed below.

Payment is required in full at the time of booking.
Upon receipt of payment you will receive an email to confirm your place.
Refunds
All course fees are non-refundable.
Should you be unable to attend your agreed training date (due to
unforeseen circumstances) please contact The Massage Academy and
at our discretion, we will endeavour to reschedule your booking.
Cancellation or Transfer of Training Dates
In the event of a genuine reason for cancellation (proof may be required)
of a confirmed training date notified prior to the booked training date, a
request for a transfer will be considered at the discretion of The
Massage Academy (subject to availability). If successful, an
administration fee of £25 will be charged. Non-attendance where no
prior notice is given will be handled at the discretion of The Massage
Academy and may result in the loss of course fees.
Should you be unable to attend a confirmed training date for medical
reasons, a valid medical certificate covering the named student and
course date will be required to waiver the fee or reschedule.
The Massage Academy reserves the right to amend course prices or
offer promotional discounts at any time without prior notice. The price
paid at the time of booking is final and no price difference can be made
in the event of a later course price reduction.
Named Student
Booked training is non-transferable to an alternative student. Please
ensure that the booking is made giving the correct name of the person
attending the course at the time of making payment. Amendments to this
will be chargeable at £25 per course/date/person, where possible for a
change to be accommodated and a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to
the course date is required in writing.
In the event that the Massage Academy should have to cancel your
course through reasons outside our control The Massage Academy will
endeavour to give students at least 24 hrs notice of any cancellation by
telephone and/or email. The Academy is not responsible for any
accommodation/travel costs students may incur due to the cancellation
of courses.
Minimum Student Age
The Massage Academy only accepts students aged over 16 years.
Course Times
Please arrive at the Academy for 9.45am ready to start at 10am.
Courses finish at approximately 4pm.
A short break for lunch is provided during which we recommend
remaining within the Academy. Please bring cold food with you (there is
no provision to heat food up).
If you arrive late in the morning, or when returning from agreed breaks,
you may be refused entry to the training. This is to avoid disruption for
other students on the course.
If you are late returning from breaks and refused entry, you will be
unable to complete the course and will forfeit course fees.
Please therefore ensure you allow sufficient time for travelling and
returning from breaks and lunch.
Make use of Google maps on smart phones or print maps / directions
from our website when planning your journey.
All students must attend the full training day until 4pm. Should you
choose or need to leave a course before the approximate end time of
4pm you may not achieve your diploma and forfeit any course fees.
Other Information
Please note that all of our courses are mixed gender and all students are
expected to both give and receive treatments as part of their training.
The Massage Academy expects appropriate behaviour at all times
towards staff and other students in accordance with our Code of
Conduct. Unacceptable behaviour will not be tolerated and may result in
students being asked to leave thereby forfeiting their training and fees.
