June is also known as Employee Wellness Month, so now is the perfect time to create a few workday habits that can boost your wellbeing and that of your colleagues too. If you try to utilise of the habits we have recommended below each month, you are guaranteed to focus more, be more productive, reduce fatigue and be overall healthier at the same time.
Meetings Whilst Walking
If you can be in a situation where your work meetings can involve walking, then try your best to fulfil it. Walking creates healthy energy from the movement whilst at the same time stimulates your brain from the change of scenery. This can spark new ideas, give fresh inspiration and a new perspective on the meeting topic. When managements and employees walk side by side, the hierarchical boundaries are eliminated due to you both taking part in the same task. It’s extremely beneficial for you and your business.
Take Advantage of Work Memberships
Does your work provide additional fitness benefits such as a gym membership or stretch breaks? Be sure to sign up to them as it’s a chance to unwind from your busy schedule and more importantly take a break. If there are no official programmes provided, then you can always start one of your own and encourage your co-workers to join in with you. A small amount of extra daily exercise can increase both your mental wellbeing as well as your physical self.
Mix Things Up with Ergonomics
Most of us in our working lives repeat our daily tasks, whether it be warehouse stacking or sat in our offices typing on our computers. Over time, being in the same positions or doing the same repetitive tasks can lead to muscle strain, soreness, and overall discomfort. If you must spend a lot of time doing the same thing as part of your job then ensure, ergonomically that you’ve got the correct setup.
Start by checking that your computer screen and chair are at the correct heights so that there is no strain on your neck or your eyes. Does your chair provide enough back support or are you finding yourself going home from the office every night with a bad back? Are your tools and equipment in easy reach of your workspace? Small changes like this can easily increase both productivity and mood.
Final Thoughts
Changing up your daily routine, especially at work can be difficult, but remember that you don’t have to do it alone. Your friends, colleagues and regular therapists can assist you in starting out. Talk to them about the steps that you want to take towards a better wellbeing and see if they want to come on the journey with you.
Make plans and activities together and share your results on a weekly basis. Starting the road to wellness discovery is so much more fun when you have someone else onboard to do it with you. So, if you know someone that would like to do it with you, this is your sign to reach out to them and start your path to wellness.
