Here at The Massage Academy our team of experts will manage and prevent muscle tightness in a number of different situations. From keen sportsman to office workers, we all get muscle tightness and treatment is much better than ignorance.
What Causes Muscle Tightness?
There are two main corresponding factors that directly link to muscle tightness and they are at complete opposite ends of the spectrum. The first is physical exercise and the second is restricted movement. We see many clients who are office or desk workers from home that are sat in the same position for 8 hours (sometimes more) who’s hips are always flexed or in bent positions due to extended periods of sitting down.
Over a long period of time, muscle imbalance in these situations causes muscle tightness and you can start right now to prevent it happening. Make sure that your office furniture offers adequate support when seated and provides comfort and assist your back posture. Take regular breaks to reduce stiffness and walk around every 45 minutes or so to keep your muscles loose and active. It is extremely important that in these situations you practice regular stretching exercises and try to remain good posture throughout your day. Muscles that are constantly lengthened will become weaker and muscled that are constantly shortened will become tight and uncomfortable.
Physical Exercise
For those people who enjoy sports and physical exercise, muscle tightness can be far more uncomfortable and have lasting effects on performance and daily routine. Muscle tightening or fatigue are one of the main causes of cramp especially when working out and this can lead to torn fibres or serious injury if not careful. It is vital that you warm up and stretch your muscles before partaking in any physical exercise.
It is common for muscle tightness to be a natural and completely unavoidable part of working out and physical exercise which is why it is very important to gradually increase the intensity of your routine. You should also try to practise proper nutrition, hydration and different warmup exercises which will also help alleviate muscle tightness and discomfort.
